The de Havilland Educational Trust (DHET) was on hand to support the Thomas Castle Aviation Heritage (TCAH) launch event for the 2025 season at Sywell Aerodrome at the end of April. Steve Barrett was on hand to show those who were new or those who interested in vintage and classic aviation around the trust’s Tiger Moth, G-TIGA and impart some of his 40+ years of knowledge of operating the type on to the next generation of pilots and engineers. Most of the aircraft attending were based at Sywell with four DH.82 Tiger Moth’s and a DHC-1 Chipmunk being the main attractions.
DHET award ‘Amy Johnson Engineering Bursaries’ to individuals who are licensed or unlicensed aircraft engineers with an interest in the restoration and maintenance of vintage aircraft and who are aiming to further their professional experience and qualifications and potentially find placements with engineering companies. In addition, DHET supports two ‘Fiona McKay Flying Scholarships’ of up to 5 hours for already licensed PPLs each year in association with TCAH, and the trust is also able to provide support for those looking to complete their skills test on an approved type, such as a Tiger Moth or Chipmunk through the ‘McRobert Award.’
For more information on the "Fiona McKay Flying Bursary" for the 5 hours of flying with TCAH and the "Lola McRobert Award" for the sponsoring of the PPL Skill Test, or to make an application please use the contact page.
