DHET Chairman Stuart Beaty attended a gathering of UK aerospace charities at the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) in London on 1st December, accompanied by DHET Secretary, Malcolm Ward. The aim of the event was to explore the potential for collaboration between charities, some of which have very similar aims and objectives. Attendees represented a broad spectrum of charities, ranging from major organisations, with full-time staff and a wide scope, to others - like DHET - comprising small teams of volunteers with a very specific remit. The day started with a welcome from Dave Edwards, Chief Executive of the RAeS, followed by a keynote address from Nicola Perrin, who spoke about her experience of promoting coherency and collaboration in the medical charities sector. There is clearly some potential read-across to aeronautical charities, which was explored in a series of breakout sessions. In all, this was a useful and thought-provoking event. We will now build on the contacts made to explore the potential for partnerships, in keeping with DHET’s charitable remit.
